The drive shafts simply slip in to splines in the wheels and the transmission. Here they're already in the wheels waiting for the motor assembly. They're connected as the motor is lowered into the car.

That's the entire mechanical drivetrain: motor, gear box, drive shafts, wheels. Very simple. Simple is good.
